This application is called “Speech Game”, it is a virtual reality game. The purpose of this game is to help people who are afraid of speech to overcome this psychological fear, by using virtual reality technology to achieve this, virtual reality technology can make player to be immersive. Inside this application is a speech scene, and players can simulate public speaking to train themselves.
2. Description of the application
The application is made by virtual reality technology and 3D technology.
The theme I chose was Fear/Phobia, and the scenario I created was a public speech. Some people are nervous about public speaking, and if you need to restore a public speaking scene in reality, the cost can be very expensive, while the cost of making a virtual reality game is very low.
This game has four scenarios, which are set according to different difficulty levels. In the scenarios, players can pick up the microphone and use makers to write on the blackboard, and the number of audience members will be different in different scenarios, so players can challenge themselves according to their situation.
If the work is done in the traditional way, the organization needs to rent a venue, recruit volunteers or staff, and is subject to time constraints. If a speech cannot be given by more than one person at the same time, multiple rehearsals are required, which is very labor-intensive and costly, and if something unexpected happens, the speech may not be held directly. But the use of virtual reality scenarios will not have these problems, players only need to enter the game, players can enter the game at the same time, and regardless of time and place to start an impromptu speech, and do not need staff and other resource, which can save time and cost. If you use AR to do this work, you also need a venue, and AR is not as immersive as VR.
The use of virtual reality technology not only solves the cost problem, but also allows players to have an immersive experience at low cost. The purpose of this game is to help people who are afraid of speaking to overcome this psychological fear, by using virtual reality technology to achieve this, so that players can immerse themselves in the situation.
3. Interaction Design
3.1 Implemented function
In the game, players can pick up the microphone and write on the board, which realizes the interactive needs of the presentation and makes the scenario more realistic.
3.2 Not implemented
After the player has challenged all the levels, player can enter a mysterious room and open the door to see the treasure chest.
The interaction can encourage players to customer service psychological fear, to bring players to continue to play the game motivation.
4. Technical Development
This application use Oculus Quest/Quest2 as interface technology.
Players walk to any level in the room and can have two interactions at the table
Interaction 1: Players can pick up the microphone on the table and simulate the speech scene in the presentation.
Interaction 2: There are two markers on the table, one red and one blue, players can pick up the markers and write on the whiteboard behind them, they can write the corresponding color.
These two interactions are the most basic requirements of the speech scene, and after meeting these two requirements, a simple speech scene can be built.
5. Descriptions of 3D Models
Wall: To prevent player falls.
Desk: In order to place the microphone and markers.
Marker: Provide to draw on the whiteboard.
Microphone: Important model for simulating a real speech scene.
Whiteboard: Can be written.
Chair: Stool for the audience.
